![]() Do I have trauma?Trauma is in the eye of the beholder. Working with trauma should not be about scoring the initial event(s) according to some generalized criteria. A traumatic response to events is highly personalized and widely variable. Healing trauma to me means processing the trauma-response and integrating the experience such that the individual can move forward. | ![]() Why Synchronicity?"Synchronicity is an ever present reality for those who have eyes to see." - Carl Jung Synchronicity is a theory that explains the meaning we sometimes perceive linking certain events in our lives. For me, it symbolizes the need to look at life holistically and to honor the interconnection of our pasts, presents and futures. | ![]() What does it mean?Recovery is a process that must be holistic and owned by the individual. Living free from active addiction is an on-going journey. An individual is never “recovered” in the sense that he/she no longer requires on-going maintenance activities. Regular work with a clinician can be a powerful component of an individual’s recovery plan – whether in the early stages of treatment or in remission for years. |

![]() Reach your goals!"Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes." - Carl Jung Working with a counselor can be a fulfilling personal journey and should always be grounded in the client's goals. I am honored each time individuals allow me to share in their growth and development. | ![]() Is 12-step the only way?“The tremendous fact for every one of us is that we have discovered a common solution." - AA Big Book (p. 17) When AA was founded in 1935, it was the first solution that seemed to help in the worst cases. 12-step programs have since expanded to include a wide variety of challenges. While 12-step is not the only way, it can be a helpful component of one’s recovery plan. Working with a counselor can supplement 12-step work and/or help individuals to find alternate solutions. | ![]() As common as the cold...“If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.” -Lao Tzu One can appreciate this wisdom; however, dealing with anxiety and depression is more complex than deciding to “let go.” These common disorders in our society have a crippling effect on those who suffer. Working with a counselor can address important cognitive/behavioral aspects of these disorders. |
![]() Can this really help?"EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is the most revolutionary, important method to emerge in psychotherapy in decades." - Herbert Fensterheim, PhD EMDR is a powerful evidence-based therapy offered by properly trained clinicians. While EMDR was originally used to treat PTSD, protocols now exist for using it with depression, anxiety, addiction and more. | ![]() Rediscover relationshipsHuman beings are social creatures. Whether we see ourselves as introverted or extroverted, we exist in a framework of relationship with others. Consequently, discord in relationships is a common issue for which people tend to seek counseling. Relationships tend to bear the brunt of impact of other issues and are regularly a secondary focus of treatment. Restoring balance and boundaries in both new and existing relationships is one of the most powerful outcomes reported from therapy. | ![]() Am I always reacting?"Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves." - Carl Jung Anger is a normal emotion that we all experience as part of our lives. However, our answers to this complex feeling can be a point of dysfunction for many. Anger management is the process of learning new ways to deal with anger that can be healthy and productive – giving us the choice to respond when tempted to react. |
![]() Who am I?Despite recent changes in law and popular opinion, individuals in the sexual minority still unfairly face significant hurdles in society. Like for any oppressed minority status group, these barriers can result in internalized shame, family problems and an increased incidence of depression, anxiety and substance use disorders. I have a great deal of research and practice experience working with members of this community through these challenges. | ![]() Just be.“You have a treasure within you that is infinitely greater than anything the world can offer.” – Eckhart Tolle One of the hardest skills to master can be quieting the mind and listening to our inner voice for support and guidance. I have been trained in several types of meditation, stress reduction and mindfulness techniques that I integrate with other techniques as applicable in my work with clients. | ![]() Rise to the occasion!“Anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm.” – Publilius Syrus Developing leadership skills can be both personally and professionally fulfilling. However, it can be hard to informally find the time to step back and assess one’s own areas of strength and development. I can offer clients who wish to excel at work and in the community the benefit of my previous experience as a senior leadership consultant in tandem with my training as a clinician. |
